Fact of the day!

"In Japan, the odds of being killed by a gun is about the same as an American's chance of being killed by lightning."

@Cbear : Yes I've read estimates of 392,000,000 guns in the US -- more than the number of people in our country. It's too easy to get them. The gun lobby wants no limitation on access to guns, magazine size, or cyclic rate (bullets per second), claiming any limitation would violate amendment rights. We need common sense regulations keep assault weapons out of civilian hands and to register gun owners. Registration could be used to keep guns out of the hands of minors and the mentally ill. It also would make it easier to track a weapon that's been used in a crime. But I don't see any meaningful changes in the foreseeable future.

@otto : Oh I 100% agree. Hand guns, rifles for hunting etc are fine. Beyond that, regular citizens do not need anything else unless...they are up to no good. Every day it seems we hear about another shooting whether it is a school, church, mall etc.
