Where were you on 911?
I was at work as the Food Service Director in a rural district in East Texas. I had just popped in to the principal's office to check on something at the high school, and they had a small black and white tv going with the news on. They turned on the intercom and shared the audio with the classrooms. I'm not sure how the lower grades shared the news with students, but lunchtime that day was the most somber I had ever seen.

@Cbear : very pithy response. I was at work in an office building on the Katy Freeway. Our IT group trooped down to the Accounting Dept. to watch events on their conference room TV. Streaming computer video hadn't yet appeared on the scene.

Headed to work, heard on radio. Thought it was a joke.
We were wondering if we should leave. We wondering if we under attack and my first thought was to go get my kids. I called school and they said they were still open but of course we could come get if chose to.
I had 2 in elementary and parents were leaving to go get kids…I chose not to and hoping I was making right choice. I didn't want to traumatize them more. It's hard to explain to kids when we didn't understand ourselves.

Doing a mall walk. Had already retired for the 3rd time. Discussion after the first plane hit was centered on the Tower of Babel.

Leadership meeting in Austin which was my home office. My peers who had flown in from across the state ended up driving back to their respective hometowns in their airport rentals.
