R.I.P. to the "leap second."
Adjusting the worlds clocks by one second has become such a hassle, that the agency responsible (International Bureau of Weights and Measures, or B.I.P.M., in France) has decided to abolish the leap second. Instead, beginning in 2027 the agency will adopt the "leap hour." No, there won't be a leap hour in 2027 -- we may not need one for thousands of years. But there won't be any more of those pesky leap seconds. I know that knowledge will make you sleep better tonight.
