First National Kolache Day

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner signed a proclamation that declared Houston Kolache Day on March 1. You can find the list of Houston area Kolache Day Specials here www.nationalkolached ay.com/

And, we won’t get into the debate about how Kolaches are sweet pastries and shouldn’t be called Kolaches if you stuff meat in there but anyway…don’t get me started!

noun, plural kolacky.
1. a sweet bun filled with jam or pulped fruit.

Merriam Webster and all the elderly Czechs I knew growing up would be on my side anyway ….just sayin’.

Oh, and when you DO find a site that says the originals also had sausage in them…no, no, no THEY DIDN’T!!! And, chances are it’s a Texas-based site that is saying it. Okay, breathe….just breathe…

Here we’ll do a pretty pic of Kolaches as nature intended.

I'm confused, if it is a "National" day, why did Turner need to make it a "Houston" day?

@HarleyRider : Good question. I was wondering the same thing so out of curiosity I tried to find out how to create a national holiday. Some sites said it takes a public official to request one to make it official. Other sites said you have to go to nationaldayholiday.com and apply but that is just a site started by some average Joes, so....I don't know how he did it or why he put Houston in it.

In other words...couldn't find a good answer to that question.
